The Difference Between GAD and Social Anxiety Disorder

Learn about our Medical Review Board Steven Gans, MD Updated on August 22, 2019 Social Anxiety Disorder Overview Symptoms & Diagnosis Causes Treatment Living With In Children Rosanna U/Getty images In This Article Table of Contents Expand Shared Features Differences in Thinking Behavioral Differences Developmental Issues Co-occurring Conditions View All Though several changes were made in the classification of anxiety disorders with the publication of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders  (DSM-5 for short), social anxiety disorder  (SAD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) continue to coexist within the same diagnostic category. Yet, even though they share some features, GAD and SAD (sometimes called social phobia) are distinct problems. Shared Features Both GAD and SAD are characterized by persistent anxiety that is excessive or disproportionate to an actual threat.?? What is meant by threat, however, differs between the two. People with social anxiety disorder sometimes experience physical symptoms associated with their anxiety, as do those with GAD. Biased thinkingâ€"in many cases catastrophizing  (imagining worst-case scenarios)â€"is central to both types of anxiety disorders as well. GAD and SAD may also occur together, and having either of these conditions increases the likelihood that a person may experience depression or other anxiety disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Differences in Thinking Though the types of thought traps can be similar, it is the thought content that distinguishes GAD from social anxiety disorder. People with GAD tend to worry about a range of topics.?? Worries may be about major life issuesâ€"such as health or financesâ€"but they are also about many minor, day-to-day stresses that others would tend not to perceive as intensely. Social worries are not uncommon in those with GAD, however, their focus tends to be about ongoing relationships rather than on fear of evaluation. For example, a young man with GAD may worry uncontrollably about the implications of a fight with his girlfriend. A mother with GAD may be overly concerned with whether or not she made the right decision to have her child switch schools and if her daughter will have a smooth transition. People with social anxiety disorder, on the other hand, tend to worry about meeting new people, being observed, and performing in front of others (for example, speaking up in class or playing an instrument in a band.)?? Their thought content typically centers on negative evaluation and possibly rejection. For example, a man with social anxiety disorder may have difficulty starting a conversation at a work happy hour for fear that he will appear anxious, say something stupid, and be ridiculed by his colleagues. A single woman with social anxiety disorder may avoid dating altogether because of anxiety about humiliating or embarrassing herself on a date. A common thread here, again, is a pathological degree of worry that is impacting the individual’s ability to develop or maintain relationships, fulfill basic obligations, and meet his or her personal and professional potential.?? GAD Worry about major life issues as well as minor, day-to-day stresses The average age of onset is 31 SAD Worry about meeting people, being observed, performing in front of others The average age of onset is 13 Differences in Behavior Given that the other components of the anxiety cycleâ€"emotions and thoughtsâ€"overlap, it follows that the behavioral differences between GAD and social anxiety disorder are subtle. Both conditions are characterized by a high degree of avoidance, but the reason underlying the avoidance is likely to be different.?? Let’s say that a man calls in sick on the day of a presentation at work. If this man has GAD, he might be avoiding the meeting out of fear that he has not put enough effort into preparing his talk and he that he will never finish it in time. If this man has social anxiety disorder, he might be avoiding the meeting out of concern that no one will like his ideas or that others might notice if he sweats while he talks. Coping With Social Anxiety When You Have a Work Meeting Developmental Issues The average age of onset is later for GAD than social anxiety disorder, age 31 for the former and age 13 for the latter.?? That said, those with GAD often have symptoms long before they seek treatment. The stressors of adolescence and early adulthood, when people are typically experiencing many social transitions (for example, schools, friendships, or romantic relationships), may exacerbate social anxiety symptoms. The responsibilities of adulthood (for example, finances, parenting, or career decisions) can amplify GAD symptoms. In older individuals, the content of worry and associated behaviors may change slightly. For example, older people with social anxiety disorder may experience anxiety and embarrassment about appearance or an impairment (for example, poor hearing or tremulous movements) that leads them to avoid or severely minimize social interactions. The presentation of GAD in older adults (the most common of the anxiety disorders in this age group) is typified by expression of physical symptoms  more readily than psychological symptoms.?? Later in life, people with GAD are more apt to experience uncontrollable worry about the health of family members or their own well-being. How Anxiety Disorders Can Still Develop in Older Adults Do These Problems Co-Occur? It is not uncommon for individuals with GAD to meet criteria for another psychiatric diagnosis in the course of their lifetime, or even simultaneously. The most commonly co-occurring problem is  depression. The Link Between Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression However, a substantial subset of individuals struggles with co-occurring GAD and social anxiety disorder. GAD and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)  also commonly occur together.?? Fortunately, the treatments for GAD and social anxiety disorder overlap. Many  medications  are helpful for both problems.  Cognitive behavioral psychotherapy  is the first-line psychotherapy for these conditions. This type of treatment helps the individual to address biases in thinking and to eliminate as much avoidant behavior as possible. A Word From Verywell While GAD and SAD share the symptom of anxiety, they differ in the thought content associated with that anxiety as well as the reasons underlying behaviors caused by the disorder. Both conditions can significantly reduce the quality of life, and its important for people with these conditions to seek out treatment. Both psychotherapy and medications can reduce uncomfortable symptoms and allow people to live their lives as fully as possible.

The Social Role of Women Free Essays

If asked what is the social role of women? The most logical answer would be that of a mother, a nurturer. Someone else may say barefoot and pregnant but it all panned out to be the same thing, inferiority. Throughout the centuries, women such as Mary Wollstonecraft fought to change this gender stereotype. We will write a custom essay sample on The Social Role of Women or any similar topic only for you Order Now It is socially thought that women are inferior to men, which is still the case in many countries. A Vindication on the Rights of Women was written back in the 1700’s, where women were to be submissive to their husbands.Disobedience was not tolerated. The cooking, cleaning, and rearing of children was the main objective. Wollstonecraft pointed out in her writings her displeasure of the government, and how women were not allowed to participate in the political issues but were expected to abide by its laws. Women were poorly educated, but expected to educate their children. Therefore, children received poor educations [ (Wollstonecraft) ]. Even in this time; many women felt the woes of their confinement and wanted to be more socially accepted.Women played major roles in shaping this country. During the Civil War, women such as Sarah Emma Edmonds acted as nurses, Union and Confederate soldiers, and even spies [ (Wilson) ]. After the Civil War, it brought about significant change for women’s rights. Wollstonecraft wanted equal opportunity in the political policy as well as in the government. She wrote a letter to M. Talleyrand Perigord, Late Bishop of Autun, she states, â€Å"I plead for my sex not for myself, in calling upon you now to weigh what I have advanced respecting the rights of woman and national education†. (Wollstonecraft) ] Wollstonecraft demanded Perigord do an investigation on the Constitution, and when it is revised that women be included in the revised version. As we look at today’s social standards, we as women have come a long way. We now own businesses; we are in congress, and even running for President. I do believe that a woman would be able to run this country just as well as men. We are the backbones of our men without us they would not have gone as far as we have. We still have some obstacles to hurdle over. Now that we have broken out of the homes and into the workplace, we must now battle to be equally paid and acknowledged as that of men. Women are overlooked but we are paving our own way to equality. One day we will be looked at as an opponent and not a subordinate.Bibliography Wilson, Barbara A. King Arthur, An Enduring Legend Essays - Medieval Welsh Literature

King Arthur, An Enduring Legend Clodfelter 1 Christopher Clodfelter English 201 Mr. Miller February 14, 1999 King Arthur, an Enduring Legend The mystical references to Arthur and his adventures are dated in literature in some form for over 1400 years, verifying the enduring appeal of this romantic character. Since the beginnings of the English language there have been legends of great heroes. The first settlements of Britain produced stories rooted in ancient Celtic and Germanic imagination; of the many, Arthur is undoubtedly preeminent. The earliest known description of Arthur's noble endeavors was written by Gildas, (ca. 490-540) the author of De excidio et conquestu Britanniae makes reference, albeit vague, to an Arthurian figure; however, the name Arthur is not mentioned in the story (Strayer 564). The full flourish of writings associated with his miraculous feats and victories do not reach a crescendo for several hundred years after Gildas (Strayer 564). During the Middle Ages, however, Arthurian myth was prominent and en vogue and attempts to discover the truth behind the myth have been pursued for generations. Arthur's history, as Geoffrey Ashe reminds us in The Discovery of King Arthur, is more than just a medley of yarns, more than just a saga in the romanticism of myth. It puts him within a definite period. It names definite places and takes him to definite countries (3). It is this fact and the fragmentary, often contradictory references of an Arthur (the Latin Artur,Arturius, or Artorius) from ancient records, that lends enough validity to the story to set researchers on the Clodfelter 2 trail of the legendary king. However, progress has been stymied for a number of reasons and even now we can say little of substance about the man behind the myth. A major difficulty facing researchers is that the role of the historian in the Dark Ages was rather flexible; a mixture of storyteller and propagandist whose regional traditions, personal prejudices, and loyalties were bound to greatly influence the nature of its material (Coglan 214). In Arthur, Richard Barber clarifies this fact and speaks of the early tendency to use history as ?an inspiration or as a warning to the men of the present, or as part of a vast divine scheme for man's spiritual salvation (Coglan 7). Another problem facing historians is that the earliest sources we have are never originals, but copies, and considering their age we must allow for the propagation of errors. One possible such error is found in the Annals of Wales, written in the tenth century. Its entry concerning the Battle of Badon claims that Arthur carried Christ's cross on his shoulder for three days, but it's likely that shoulder should instead be shield, due to confusion between the Welsh words scui d and scuit (Alcock 51-52). The search for the truth of legend continues. Perhaps the best known of all Arthurian legends is that of Geoffrey of Monmouth. His History of the Kings of Britain, (ca. 1136) Besides planting highly erroneous notions of British history,...supplied a basis and framework for Arthurian romance and exerted an influence extending through Spenser, Shakespeare, and many others (Coglan 209). In it, Geoffrey recounts the history of Britain's leaders back to their beginning in 1115 BC to King Cadwallader's death in AD 689. Geoffrey's account, though most agree not strictly factual, offers a clear look into the events surrounding Arthur's death and is the starting point for much investigation (Coglan 214). Geoffrey's work was immensely popular and was not criticized during his lifetime Clodfelter 3 (Goodrich 45). Modern historians, however, have many reasons to be skeptical of Geoffrey's work. The most obvious problem is its anachronistic representation of a supposedly 5th century king in a very Norman England; as was typical of historians in his day, Geoffrey superimposed his contemporary culture upon his depiction of the past (Goodrich 47). Many inaccuracies exist in his description of the period. If there is an Arthur, he will not be a magnificent Christian king sitting astride a heavy Byzantine charger, accoutered in Norman plate armor. He will not be basking in a mighty castle between European excursions with a band of international knights; rather, he will be no more than an unkempt and possibly pagan military leader with little if any armor. He will likely

Josephine Cochran, Inventor of the Dishwasher

Josephine Cochran, Inventor of the Dishwasher Josephine Cochran, whose  grandfather  was also an inventor and was awarded a  steamboat  patent,  is best known as the inventor of the dishwasher. But the history of the appliance goes back a little further. Learn more about how the dishwasher came to be and Josephine Cochrans role in its development.   Invention of the Dishwasher In 1850, Joel Houghton patented a wooden machine with a hand-turned wheel that splashed water on dishes. It was hardly a workable machine, but it was the first patent. Then, in the 1860s, L. A. Alexander improved the device with a geared mechanism that allowed the user to spin racked dishes through a tub of water. Neither of these devices was particularly effective. In 1886, Cochran proclaimed in disgust, If nobody else is going to invent a dish washing machine, Ill do it myself. And she did. Cochran invented the first practical dishwasher.  She designed the first model in the shed behind her house in Shelbyville, Illinois.  Her dishwasher was the first to use water pressure instead of scrubbers to clean the dishes. She received a patent on December 28, 1886. Cochran had expected the public to welcome the new invention, which she unveiled at the 1893  Worlds Fair, but only hotels and large restaurants were buying her ideas. It was not until the 1950s that dishwashers caught on with the general public. Cochrans machine was a hand-operated mechanical dishwasher. She founded a company to manufacture these dishwashers, which eventually became KitchenAid. Biography of Josephine Cochran Cochran was born to John Garis, a civil engineer, and Irene Fitch Garis. She had one sister, Irene Garis Ransom. As mentioned above, her grandfather  John Fitch  (father of her mother Irene) was an inventor who was awarded a  steamboat  patent. She was raised in  Valparaiso, Indiana, where she went to private school until the school burned down. After moving in with her sister in  Shelbyville, Illinois,  she married William Cochran on October 13, 1858, who returned the year before from a disappointing try at the  California Gold Rush and went on to become a prosperous dry goods merchant and  Democratic Party  politician. They had two children, a son  Hallie Cochran who died at age 2, and a daughter Katharine Cochran. In 1870, they moved into a mansion and began throwing dinner parties using heirloom china allegedly dating from the 1600s. After one event, the servants carelessly chipped some of the dishes, causing Josephine Cochran to find a better alternative.  She also wanted to relieve tired housewives from the duty of washing dishes after a meal.  She is said to have run through the streets screaming with blood in her eyes, If nobody else is going to invent a dish washing machine, Ill do it myself! Her alcoholic husband died in 1883 when she was 45 years old, leaving her with numerous debts and very little cash, which motivated her to go through with developing the dishwasher. Her friends loved her invention and had her make dishwashing machines for them, calling them Cochrane Dishwashers, later founding the Garis-Cochran Manufacturing Company.

A physical change only alters the shape or appearance of a sample and not its chemical identity. A chemical change is a chemical reaction, which rearranges a sample on a molecular level. Chemical properties encompass those characteristics of matter that can only be observed by changing the chemical identity of a sample, which is to say by examining its behavior in a chemical reaction. Examples of chemical properties include flammability (observed from combustion), reactivity (measured by readiness to participate in a reaction), and toxicity (demonstrated by exposing an organism to a chemical).

Physics of Formula One - Essay Example Enzo Ferrari the legend behind the name Ferrari had a passion for car racing which motivated him to come out with the brand name which is today a household name in the field of F1 races. It was in 1945 that the work started on designing and building the very first Ferrari, a project which was being prepared around 12-cylinder2 – a first in the history which went on to provide a direction to the car in general and car racing in particular. Ferrari was the first car to use 1.5 litre unit in a V12 configuration. Since then the company has not looked back. Ferrari, the car was the brain child of its founder Enzo Ferrari. The journey begins with the foundation of Scuderia, sort of a club, on 16th November 1929, exclusively for participating in motor-racing competitions. Enzo Ferrari an integral part of Alpha Romeo for many decades, parted ways in 1929. When Ferrari left the club, he was not allowed to have his name on any of the cars or clubs for the next four years. But his resolve and patience saw him through in his ventures and he started with an 8-cylinder, 1500 cc sports spider, named as 815. It was only in 1946 that the name Ferrari comes into being for cars. The company has not looked back since then. Thereafter came its association with Michael Schumacher in 1996, which further helped in establishing the brand equity called ‘Ferrari’. The F1 racing is now an integral part of Ferrari. In fact F1 racing has now become a big industry in itself. Such developments have started driving other car manufacturers as well int o the race and serious manufacturers like BMW have also started experimenting with the sporty driving. Though it may sound boring to people watching the racing on the tracks, its television clippings have started commanding huge premium. This potential was foreseen by Mr. Ecclestone of ‘Formula One Administration’, who produces the electronic feed being watched by over 40 billion viewers (The

Point of view of the speaker in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night Essay

Point of view of the speaker in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas - Essay Example The first line’s diction has been purposefully chosen to make it a command. The second, third, fourth, and fifth stanzas are persuasive and encourage the father to show his â€Å"rage against the dying of the light† (Thomas). In the sixth stanza, the poet requests his father to be his usual self and scream and yell at him to signify his strength. The overall tone of the poem is an outcome of the form and diction used by Thomas. Thomas acknowledges the fact that life and death are interrelated by pairing â€Å"gentle† with â€Å"rage†, â€Å"light† with â€Å"night†, and â€Å"dying† with â€Å"good†. Nevertheless, Thomas has made use of such diction that allows him to place his emphasis on life instead of death. This can be estimated from his frequent use of the words like â€Å"blaze†, â€Å"fierce†, and â€Å"green†. Dylan Thomas is upset to see his otherwise robust and radical father become weak and blind in his eighties and thus, persuades him to revert to life. Why I Want to Become a Teacher :: Free Essays Online

Doctors, lawyers, politicians, and engineers. How did they all get to where they are today? No matter the position someone may hold in society everyone has progressed to where they are in life because they had a teacher, someone who taught them in the way they should go. Teacher as defined in the dictionary as one who instructs. To teach someone is to communicate skills and give instruction. Today I would like to tell you why I would like to become a teacher. Specifically speaking I will tell you what has led me to this decision and why I want to become a teacher. To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher. Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.

English as Official Language Debate Essay

The United States is a nation founded by immigrants. Throughout the years the US has struggled with discrimination and close-mindedness. But, when we put our differences aside we can achieve the impossible. We are a country united by our differences. We celebrate our diversity, independence and individuality. We are a country that believes in choice, and one of those choices should be the option to speak the language which we relate to and understand. It was our forefather’s ambition that got us to the Land of The Free and our determination that made us successful. So how can we say we stand for freedom if we don’t give our people, immigrants (illegal or not), the right to speak their language? We are a country for the people, but not all of our people speak English. Many Americans argue that those who live in America should speak English but think about this: English is the sum of many other languages. The British brought English to America and forced the Native Americans to convert to their language and their ways. In modern society, we cringe at the idea of oppression and encourage those who are oppressed to speak out for themselves, yet turn a blind eye when we are the oppressors. A parallel can be drawn with bullying. It is an issue that many children, teens, and adults experience. Bullying has been an active topic in the media in recent years. Teachers, parents and authoritative figures continue to urge those who are bullied or have witnessed an act of bullying to stand up for themselves and get help. Thus, America is not only being hypocritical and ignorant, but it is also being a bully by forcing other’s to speak â€Å"our† language. We are oppressing their beliefs. We are telling them that they must speak our language if they want to be American; they must speak our language if they want to be successful. Understandingly, those who come to America should be educated in our history and be required to pass a citizenship test. But speaking English does not make one an American. A citizen is not inferior because he/she cannot speak English. Americans today are born with this innate sense of superiority. Yet, over the years we have overcome most of our selfish and antiquated ways and this is just another obstacle which we must surmount. We cannot force a diverse group of people to speak one language when our nation consists of so many. We cannot force a language upon our people without oppressing those people. Making English the official language would make us hypocrites and bullies. Therefore, English should not be the official language of the United States.

The First Christmas Of My Family - 905 Words

December 24th, 2016 was the first Christmas I spent in America with my host family. All kinds of decoration were ready to light up and a variety of gifts were set up under the Christmas tree . My host parents and I were hanging up the Christmas socks at the fireplace. Within the 8 socks this year, there were three of them did not belong to the fireplace anymore. Baddy, Peter, and Jasmine, their socks were hung at the second-floor platform, a place for the dogs that no longer with us. Standing by the entrance door, I looked upward to the third sock with Jasmine’s name on it. With Jasmine’s Christmas sock moving from the fireplace and taking an empty space on the second floor, I realized something was change. It was not only about the dogs but also myself. Looked at the socks, I couldn’t help to recall the memory between Jasmine and I. The first time I met Jasmine was from the pictures my host family sent to me before I came to America. In one of the pictures, there were 2 big dogs chasing each other around in the back yard. One was Jasmine a nine-year-old black lab-mix, the other one was Haley, a 12 years old dalmatian mix with black patterns on the white fur. I worried that if I could get along with the dogs because for the first sixteen years in my life there never was a dog around. In my mind, I stereotyped big dogs as an aggressive and fierce animal. Fossil Fuel Power Station - 4909 Words

A fossil-fuel power station is a type of power station that burns fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas or petroleum (oil) to produce electricity. Central station fossil-fuel power plants are designed on a large scale for continuous operation. In many countries, such plants provide most of the electrical energy used. Fossil fuel power stations have rotating machinery to convert the heat energy of combustioninto mechanical energy, which then operates an electrical generator. The prime mover may be a steam turbine, a gas turbine or, in small plants, a reciprocating internal combustionengine. All plants use the energy extracted from expanding gas - steam or combustion gases. Older unloaders may still use manually operated bottom-dump rail cars and a shaker attached to dump the coal. Generating stations adjacent to a mine may receive coal by conveyor belt or massive diesel-electric-drive trucks. A collier (cargo ship carrying coal) may hold 40,000 long tons of coal and takes several days to unload. Some colliers carry their own conveying equipment to unload their own bunkers; others depend on equipment at the plant. Colliers are large, seaworthy, self-powered ships. For transporting coal in calmer waters, such as rivers and lakes, flat-bottomed vessels called barges are often used. Barges are usually unpowered and must be moved by tugboats or towboats. For start up or auxiliary purposes, the plant may use fuel oil as well. Fuel oil can be delivered to plants by pipeline, tanker, tank car or truck. Oil is stored in vertical cylindrical steel tanks with capacities as high as 90,000 barrels (14,000 m3) worth. The Tragic History of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare Free Essays

In the Tragic History of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, , the sane Hamlet occasionally switches between sanity and insanity. When madness orders Hamlet’s purpose, he puts on an â€Å"antic disposition† (I. V. We will write a custom essay sample on The Tragic History of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare or any similar topic only for you Order Now 463). On the other hand, when sanity proves worthy, Hamlet continues back to being logical. Hamlet claims he is â€Å"mad north-north-west (II. ii), meaning he is mad sometimes and sane other times. To achieve his goals, Hamlet continues back and forth between sanity and insanity, which ironically, shows his goal of revenge. To begin, Hamlet starts of insanity to try and achieve his goals. Hamlet uses is insanity as a weapon, changing insanity into the form of words or action. Hamlet is only insane towards his enemies or his enemies allies. For example, Hamlet attacks Ophelia, who has allied herself with Claudius with words â€Å"are you honest† (III. i) â€Å"are you fair† (III. i). Hamlet â€Å"speaks daggers† (III. ii) to Gertrude, because she is an interference to Hamlet. Also, Hamlet destroys Polonius so violently that Hamlet guarantees that Polonius is â€Å"dead, for a ducat, dead† (III. iv). Hamlet deeply harms both Ophelia and Gertrude with his words of insanity, while sending Polonius to the grace with his actions of insanity. All three people, Ophelia, Gertrude and Polonius, are Claudius’ allies, and by hurting Claudius’ allies, Hamlet is indirectly wounding Claudius. This is Hamlet’s short term goal: to get rid Claudius of allies. Besides using insanity to harm Claudius’ allies, the little presence of Hamlet’s insanity troubles Claudius. Gradually, Claudius gets more furious with Hamlet and knows that â€Å"madness in great ones must not unwatch’d go† (III. i. ). Hamlet’s insanity causes Claudius to send people to uncover the mysteries of his insanity. Hamlet’s fake madness causes Claudius to increase anger. Claudius’ confusion is Hamlet’s other short-term goal. In brief, Hamlet’s insanity has helped him achieve his short-term goals of eradicating Claudius’ allies and confusing Claudius. On the other hand, Hamlet returns to sanity and uses it as a method of concentration. Whenever Hamlet is sane, he is focused on the current situation. When Hamlet encounters the ghost, he tells it to â€Å"speak†, because he is â€Å"bound to hear† (I. v. ). While speaking with the ghost, Hamlet cries for his â€Å"prophetic soul† (I. v. ). Hamlet is also very focused when speaking and listening to Horatio. When Horatio tells Hamlet about the ghost of Hamlet’s father, Hamlet asks Horatio to â€Å"let him hear† (I. ii. ). While sane, Hamlet’s thoughts are clear and he is focused on the topic. When meeting his father’s ghost, he pays full attention to it. When Hamlet speaks to Horatio about Hamlet’s father’s ghost, Hamlet listens and speaks with sanity. Hamlet also refers to his â€Å"prophetic soul† (I. v. ). Since Hamlet describes himself to have a â€Å"prophetic soul† (I. v. ), it shows that his mind is very clear, unlike the mind of the insane. Hamlet’s short-term goal is to concentrate when necessary. When Hamlet is alone, his thoughts are very thorough. For example, Hamlet’s â€Å"to be or not to be† (III. i. ) speech is very clearly thought out. Hamlet’s thoughts are much more mature than those of the insane. Hamlet’s second short-term goal is to philosophize. Through the return into sanity, Hamlet is able to accomplish both his short-term goals of concentration and philosophizing. However, due to the constant reversal between sanity and insanity, Hamlet’s revenge is slowed down. Hamlet’s mind becomes tangled due to constant changes in personality, between sanity and insanity. Early in the play, Hamlet says that he will put on an â€Å"antic disposition† (I. v. ). However, in the last scene of the play, Hamlet tells Horatio that â€Å"in my heart there was a kind of fighting† (V. ii. ). At one point he says that he will fake insanity, while later, he says that there is fighting in his heart, which hints insanity. Due to this, Hamlet becomes indecisive. Hamlet’s inability to act causes his revenge to be slowed. In the end, it is believed that Hamlet is very sane. His act of insanity is to mess with the others heads. He knows that Claudius has sent Rosencrantz and guildenstern to spy on him. He doesn’t want them to know that what he is planning is to unveil the truth, and that Claudius murdered King Hamlet. He does not want Claudius to know that he knows the truth. Hamlet switches between sanity and insanity to achieve his short-term goals. He uses insanity against enemies and sanity as a method of concentration. However, the constant switch of sanity and insanity brings him a slow revenge. Procedures Financial Report Information DIPL †Free Samples

Question: Application Of Analytical Procedures To The Financial Report Information Of DIPL? Answer: Introducation Analytical processes to the financial report information of DIPL can help in developing the plan of audit. This plan of audit can be considered to be a particular guideline that need to be followed at the time of undertaking the audit. In particular, this assists the assessor in maintaining costs of audit at a reasonable level and assists in averting misunderstanding with the clientele. Analytical approach to the financial declarations of the firm DIPL refers to the process of dissemination of the information from the financial declaration of the firm. This process of evaluation can be carried out by utilizing a variety of mechanisms. However, by using an analytical approach of analysing financial declarations, different accountants as well as financial analysts can decipher information in order to help in arriving at vital business decisions. Analytical approach of common sizing helps in analysing the financial declarations to a common reference point. This in turn help in comparing the financial statements in terms of different period of time or else in terms of different corporations. Assessors can take into consideration the different line of items mentioned in the financial report, check their way of reporting. For example, the way of registering items such as net assets or else net liabilities along with owners equity in the financial reporting of the firm and the examine the digression from the normal. Benchmarking that is regarded as an analytical procedure can be utilized for analysing audit plan. Variance of actual financial declaration from the benchmark helps in recognizing the deviation and assists in analysing the cause of the detected variance in order to determine the root cause. In addition to this, ratio analysis can be considered as an appropriate analytical approach that can be used for comparing financial declarations and assessing plan of audit. Explanation of the way the results influence planning decisions for the audit The results of the planning decisions for the audit planning is necessarily influenced by the results of the analytical approach adopted for disseminating information from the financial statements. For example, outcomes of the ratio analysis namely, current ratio of the firm DIPL is calculated to be 1.42 in 2013, 1.46 in 2014 and 1.5 in 2015. Again, profitability ratio that is the profit margin calculated to be 0.068 in 2013, 0.60 in 2014 and 0.06 in 2015. This profitability ratio can reveal the condition of the net income earned by the firm as compared to the net sales of the firm DIPL (Duncan and Whittington 2014). However, this too can help the assessor to understand whether expenses are low or else high and whether the management of the firm have the requirement to curtail budget and at the same time expends of the firm. The favourable or else unfavourable changes in the ratio can be used as a factor of reference for assessment /audit of the soundness of the financial health and overall financial condition of the firm DIPL. Again, for instance, the use of solvency ratio calculated to be 0.62 in 2013, 0.44 in 2014 and 0.21 in 2015 helps in understanding the desirable as well as undesirable trends in the financial condition of the firm. Similarly, comparison of the ratio over the three year period can help in understanding whether the overall flow of cash of the corporation is adequate enough to meet both the short as well as long term liabilities of the corporation DIPL. The assessors can understand the relative position of the firm over the three year period and analyse the factor that led to the undesirable or else unfavourable condition of the corporation (Nalewaik and Mills 2016). Identification of inherent risk factors that arise from nature of business operations of DIPL As such, there are several important factors in auditing that comprises of incidence of material misstatements in the financial announcements of a specific concern. However, it can be hereby make certain that there are different forms of systematic along with unsystematic risks that reflect the way towards financial misstatements in the financial declarations of corporations. However, the detected risks might possibly be due to both financial as well as non-financial factors that eventually can avert a specific corporation for reflecting a true as well as fair view of pertinent financial declarations. Nevertheless, an evaluator might perhaps find it demanding to detect certain risks. William Jr et al. (2016) opines that identified risks may well be linked to different risks correlated to omission along with risks of diverse errors that is unthinkable for a specific bookkeeper. In essence, this can be regarded as the inherent risk that might arise from nature of business operations of DIPL. According to the given study, it can be hereby made certain that there are numerous transactions that are particularly omitted by the accountants otherwise the management of the corporation DIPL. However, this can sequentially direct lead towards inconsistencies particularly owing to the ineffectual planning of essentially the marketing along with sales activities. Furthermore, evaluation of the financial declarations of the firm also reveals the fact that the firm has failed to accomplish the preferred profit level from the revenue from sales (Hayes 2014). Particularly, this might be due to the management failure of the firm in identification of specific requirements and consequent adjustment of the functionalities of the corporation. Thus, it can be hereby concluded that the business organization has failed to analyse different micro as well as macro-economic facets that might perhaps be in existence in the form of economic, political along with social factors. This is subsequently reflected in the poor sales figure of the firm and led to diverse inherent risks (Arens et al. 2016). Apart from this, the workers of the firm DIPL have also escalated the overall inherent risks. Due to lack of experience and proficiency of employees in the corporation, the inherent risks of the corporation have escalated substantially. This is because accomplishment of a specific business concern depends on the competency of the members of the staff. The non-proficient workforces can enhance the inherent risks since they are bound to commit mistakes for instance, the errors of exclusion that further leads the way towards the misstated pecuniary announcements (DeFond and Zhang 2014) Again, other significant facets that contribute towards the inherent risks can be categorised into different sections specifically, environmental along with external facets, material misstatements in previous periods along with falsified exercises. Different environmental facets that direct the way towards inherent risk comprises of swift alterations in which there might be issues associated to valuation of inventory, stiff competition in the generic market along with shortage of adequate capital (Knechel and Salterio 2016). In addition to this, the corporation also undertake material misstatements that might perhaps direct towards inherent risk in the upcoming period. Evaluation of the current case of DIPL reflects the fact that the complexities as well as difficulties involved in the process of succession of CEO also involves inherent risk. Essentially, succession of CEO can be considered to be different and the candidates are extremely individual (Louwers et al. 2015). However, there are several risks that are inherent in the process of succession of CEO, quality of procedure of selection together with ease of transition as process is handled. So, commencement of the process without complying with the strategy, initiating the process late, inadequate involvement of the CEO and departure of candidates leaving the company might possibly lead to inherent risks. Analysis of the given case reveals that the process of implementation of the novel IT system generated certain issues. DIPL did not enough number of staff to handle the process of execution and installation and carry out the reconciliation as well as testing essentially before the new arrangement prior to the end of the year. Again, initial testing revealed that certain transactions undertaken were not accurately apportioned to the correct time period. Thus, this led to the material misstatement owing to inherent factors that is necessarily error or else omission in a specific financial declaration (Eilifsen et al. 2013). Furthermore, the recording of the cash receipts by the finance professionals of the company might perhaps lead to inherent risks if not properly handled. The members of the staff need to follow a proper sequence so that accounts receivables are properly registered and accounts receivable ledger need to be properly maintained. In addition to this, the bank reconciliation also needs to be properly recorded thereon (Cannon and Bedard 2016). Again, registering the revenue generated from the e-book, taking account of reprint of textbooks if required in the upcoming period can lead to diverse inherent risks due to complexity involved in the process. In addition to this, process of valuation of different raw material inventory at particularly average cost was not suitable since the present cost of paper was considerably above the average cost. Risk and way it might affect the risk of material misstatement in the financial report The identified inherent risks can be considered as the susceptibility of a particular assertion in association to material misstatement. Excessive pressure on employees and management: - Excessive workload on members of the staff of the corporation leads to poor bookkeeping. This leads to certain attributes namely propensity to encounter cash flow issues, poor operating outcomes along with poor liquidity (Barton and Bruder 2014). Risks of errors or else incorrect misrepresentation: - There remains reliability and intricacy owing to risks of errors as well as misrepresentation simultaneously. Integrity of the entire management: - Management of DIPL essentially lacks requisite integrity and thereafter they are also expected to be prepared for reputation loss in the entire business community (Beasley 2015). Unusual pressure on management: - Sometimes it happens that there exists incentives for management that leads to misstatement in the pecuniary declarations (Barton and Bruder 2014). Nature of entity business: - DIPL also leads to growth to major economic along with competitive circumstances. Again, these facets might affect the overall inherent risk of business entity for analysing audit planning structure in an effective way (Beasley 2015). Identification and explanation of two key fraud risk factors relating to misstatements arising from fraudulent financial reporting Identification as well as explanation of fraud risk related to material misstatement As rightly indicated by (), fraud risk leads to considerable losses of assets owing to fraud. The dissatisfaction of the workforce owing to excessive workload of the employees can induce them to involve in fraud. In addition to this, expectations from different investors to report specific financial outcomes or particularly by management to attain specific performance targets leads to high fraud risk. There also remains strong pressure to declare specific financial outcomes in a bid to avert generating the guarantees. The major fraud risks that might occur owing to the operations of the firm DIPL include workforce engages in fraudulent actions due to higher level of dissatisfaction of employees. The given case study on the operations of DIPL mentions that there remains huge pressure from particularly the board to acquire a novel accounting system. This excessive pressure on the employees to carry out the process of installation of the new IT system for accounting might lead to fraud. This implies that the employees might engage in fraudulent activities and handle the procedure of reconciliation in an improper manner and subsequently material misstatement. The case study also illustrates that the improper handling of the process of execution of the implementation of the information technology for the accounting system led to improper allocation of certain transactions around the end of the year. This in turn might lead to loss due to material misstatement and fraud risk. Another fraud risk that might occur include the risk of financial reporting fraud. At the time when there is excessive expectation from outside financiers to declare specific financial announcements or else from management to meet specific performance targets or else to meet certain goals to qualify for acquiring debt, there remains high risk of improper financial announcements. The statement of financial position of the company DIPL shows that the revenue of the company has increased over the period 2013 to 2015. In addition to this, the gross profit as well as the net profit has also increased. Furthermore, the current assets and total assets of the corporation DIPL has also escalated. However, the case study reveals that during the year 2015, the company has acquired a loan amounting to 7.5 million particularly from BDO Finance. Besides this, the case study also reflects the fact that this particular loan has a specific loan agreement that requires DIPL to maintain a present a cur rent ratio of around 1.5 along with a debt equity of approximately lower than 1. This shows that this requirement might pressurize the company to maintain the financial ratio so that they can acquire the credit. Therefore, this might lead to fraudulent actions and lead to improper reflection of financial position. In essence, failure of the company to maintain the definite benchmarks can again make the company non-eligible to acquire finance from BDO Finance. Explanation of the way the risk factors identified According to the given case, it can be hereby stated that process of valuation of different raw material inventory at particularly average cost was not suitable since the present cost of paper was considerably above the average cost. Risk of identifying fraudulent actions involved in implementation of the new IT system can be carried out by monitoring different activities at different phases. The risk of financial reporting can be detected by carrying out evaluation of financial statements by assessors, monitoring control mechanisms from time to time.
